“Fiestas” are celebrated all-year round, all over the country especially in the summer months. May is the liveliest and most beautiful month of the year in the Philippines. May is the season of colorful festivals and Flores de Mayo or Santacruzan is one of the festivals. When the rains begin to pour after a long dry spell, flowers starts to bloom, we do not have to stop and smell the roses, the fragrance of flowers (Sampaguita – Philippine National Flower, Kalachuchi, roses, and other blooms) floats in the air.

Santacruzan is held annually in the warm month of May and is considered to be the Queen of Philippine Festivals. Beautiful girls and ladies are selected to participate in this colorful parade, hence the birth of “Little Miss WMFAA”, “Miss Teen WMFAA”, “Miss WMFAA” and “Mrs. WMFAA”. This event/activity is called “Beauty for a Cause”. “Beauty for a Cause” was dubbed to help raised funds to support “Fund from the Heart”.

We do not have Flores de Mayo or Santacruzan here in West Michigan, so the beauty contestants of the “Beauty for a Cause” will be in the WMFAA float in “Tulip Festival” in Holland (WMFAA Float Registration and Application is underway) which also coincide with the Philippines Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo. There is also a plan of joining the July 4th parade in Kentwood (WMFAA Float Registration and Application is underway) and to join other parade as WMFAA see fit. Subject:  Beauty For A Cause Rules

Dear Member:

WMFAA is seeking contestants for Beauty/Popularity Contests to represent WMFAA in it's various cultural undertakings.  We are checking details for Tulip Festival (May 2008) and July 4TH Parade in Kentwood for possible inclusion of WMFAA to the parade.  The winners will ride the float and represent our organization.  Proceeds from this activity go to "Fund from the Heart.  This should be a fun and friendly competition amongst our members.  Candidates are instrumental for raising funds to the project "Fund from the Heart"

The categories are as follows:
... Miss Little WMFAA (4 years old to 8 years old)
... Miss Teen WMFAA (9 years old to 16 years old)
... Miss WMFAA (17 years old and up, single, no children)
... Ms. WMFAA (any age as long as you are married and/or divorced)

Melissa Wahr is the daughter of Randy and Vicky Wahr. She is 22 years old and has an Associate Degree in Nursing. Melissa currently works as a Nurse in Renal Advantage.

Trisha Spoelman is the daughter of Rod and Merle Spoelman. Trisha likes to sing, ride bike, do puzzles, go camping and most of all go swimming.

Katrina is the daughter of James and Sonia McCormick. She is 16 years old and at 10th Grade in North Muskegon High School.   She likes singing (a member of the HS choir) and likes to play the piano.  She in involved in HS Cheerleading and is currently participating in Track and Field.

Amber Vogel is the daughter of Ronald and Eloisa Vogel and is 9 years old.  Amber is always looking forward to attend her Sunday school classes.  Amber also loves to read, write, play, sing, and most of all, going on vacations with her family.  Amber is currently in fourth grade at C.A. Frost Environmental Science Academy.

Jasmine is 9 years old, she attends Sand Lake Elementary School as a 3rd grader.  She likes to read, write and do some arts.  She plays Soccer and her favorite color is pink

My name is Marvie Blain.  I am 30 years old.  I am married to my wonderful husband Ron, it will be 10 years this summer.   I am from Cebu, Philippines and graduated from the University of San Jose-Recoletos in March of 1998 with a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, major in Business Administration.  In my free time, I like to hang out with my friends, cook some Filipino foods, sing karaoke, dance and sometimes even play BINGO.

I do hope that my candidacy in Mrs. WMFAA will contribute in helping the association raise funds for a good cause.

Olivia Cortez Graber is the daugher of Felly Cortez.   Olivia's husband is John Graber and John has 3 childeren Jamie, Josh, and Jsese.   Olivia has one son Devin Gibson.   Olivia likes to play yahtzee, go camping, dancing, bowling and fishing as well as singing videoke.  Olivia also states "I love to cook, Pilipino food and American food"

Mckayla is the daughter of Mike and Marie Morales.

McKayla Joy Morales was born on Febuary 19, 2001 which makes her 7 years old. She is in first grade at Harrington Public Schools in Holland Michigan.  McKayla has four brothers and she is the only girl, She loves being 'Princess'.

Jyra Delloro Vincent is the daughter of Keith and Liza D. Vincent, Jyra is 5 years old she was born on Septermber 1, 2002. Jyra is in Kindergarden at Rather Elementary School in Ionia.  During her free time she enjoys her piano lessons as well as playing and solving puzzles, learning how to skate and bowling.

Vanessa is 10 years old and she is a 5th Grader at Lakeshore Elementary School.  Vanessa’s hobbies are Martial Arts, singing and she loves to play her violin.  She is a very outgoing kid.

Elizabeth Ona is the daughter of Darwin and Dr. Suzzette Ona.  She is 16 years old.  She attends East Kentwood High School, as a 10th grader.  She loves playing the violin, dancing, reading and taking pictures.  She also loves to swim and play video games.  Her favorite colors are red, blue and green.  When ask about her comments to the "Beauty for a Cause" event, she said "It was a fun experience selling the candies at my school".

Shirley Punches was born in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.  She graduated in Charm and Modeling Course at Karilagan Finishing School at Makati, Philippines.  She was a member of "Hiyas" Pilipinas Dance Company in the Philippines.  She has 1 daughter (Crysantha) and 3 sons (Shirward, Ricky and Keith).
